Just Had Port Put In 6 Hours Ago, Swelling About One Inch Below The Incision, And Looks Like A Marble Under My Skin, Is That Normal
@A MyBCTeam Member For what it is worth...I am two chemos down and 4 to go. FEC-D...I have aggressive cancer...so chemo first...they decided...surgery after...then radiation targeting the surgery. I agree to all.
My first 3 chemo cycles are to be the worst. I was ready...And the the first was no biggee..And today...still doing fine. In first 2i days...I had only two bad days...the rest were just fine and i pushed myself through it...no moping. It helped to push to do things...even one outing ...achieve something. Take your son and you for a good walk...get outside...add it to your day. helps mentally to be as active as you can...just enough.
And day two after chemo #2..i am hoping for the same tolerance...my MO is very pleased about my tolerance and thinks I should expect more of the same. I am also getting the drug Neulasta 24 hours AFTER chemo. And I figure it has mae a big difference to my tolerance because it quickly rebuilds your white blood cell count which needs carefully monitored cause it can plummet to zero...at first...and then eventually rebuilds toward the tail end of your cycle...so that you can go down for the count again...My drug...supports the regeneration earlier...so you can feel better sooner...and so far so good. I also have not had side effects to either of those injections. Tho bone pain is the obvious side effect for some. ARe you going to do this as well. The drug is called the same thing in the us as here in Canada. It is a support...to your blood...well worth it when you thin about how to mitigate the chemo side effects.
No problem w/port! I wear it as a "badge of courage"...š
ya...yesterday an hour searching for a vein to use...taught me a lesson. i will get the port...I am just afraid still...I know it makes perfect sense and will be so much easier on me!!! My neighbour came over...and is wearing a prosthesis and a v neck Tshirt...is over her treatment for recurrence...boo...but looks great...i did not now she had a mastectomy the second bout...couldn't tell...and she pulled aside her tshirt and showed me where she finally had her port removed...and I could not see a thing!! She had to indicate the slight scarring...but I would not have noticed. She had no trouble with her port ever...just initially making friends with it. So...a good story...mine won't be done in the same hospital...so I will keep checking out women here. It helps to hear from all of you...thank you.
I can't imagine doing chemo without it. All the blood work and 16 rounds of chemo. It made it so much easier.
Yes -- they should have given you some antibiotics. But you will get used to it....
