What are you using on the scar itself? I found that massaging the scar itself as often as possible will keep the skin from adhering to the muscle underneath, which can often feel like a burning sensation if the skin (or muscle) moves and the scar is stuck. I use an unscented 100% shea butter lotion from my local organic market, and rub that in daily, across the scar itself, and then move the scar round by pushing the skin below it in an upwards direction, and then pushing the skin above it in a downward position, alternating frequently, all along the scars. The goal is for the scar to move freely over the muscles underneath. If it hurts, move to another location....good luck.

Aw man that is tough! I too had a bmx... Are you still wearing any bandaging over the scars? If so, you might want to consider this trick my surgeon suggested. She said to take maxi pads (or panty liners if the scars aren't weeping too much) and stick them **to the inside of the shirt** such that the padding rested against the scars. This would allow airflow, to help clear out the rash, while providing a barrier against the cloth.

If the skin is still irritated, especially with open sores, adding lotion to the area may make it worse. If the rash itches, you might want to ask your doc if it is OK to take an antihistamine, or to use an antihistamine lotion (the Benadryl brand has one you can get at any drugstore).

Once the rash is cleared up, the burning sensation should go with it. I wouldn't use any lotion until that's taken care of first.

As for the name of the lotion, I don't have the name. It comes in a bulk form at the market, where I can squirt out the amount I want to purchase into my own reusable bottle. The key things to remember is not to use anything scented, to use as pure a substance as possible (fewest preservatives possible) and to only use it on healed skin.

Also, check the soap you use for bathing. Consider using Ivory or a unscented glycerin soap until the burning goes away. I'm finding I'm more sensitive to the preservatives in just about everything....hope you get relief soon!

My bmx scar still burns at night if I stretch or move in my sleep and it's been since July. My surgeon prescribed 5% Lidocaine patches which i paste on at night and they do the trick beautifully.

ooo one other thing. Laundry soap. If it's scented, that might be an irritation too....
