No dear you are not crazy. It is a wise and prudent decision. You won't be lopsided and you won't have to worry about the other breast getting cancer in the future. This is what I did and I don't regret it. Oncologist told me no estrogen suppressing drugs would be necessary. I was diagnosed with DCIS. BMX is a very painful aftermath and will take months to feel better. I had surgery July 16, 2013 with 25 radiation treatments. Depression does go along with this. Hope you have loving support. Get ready to be a lady warrior. Fight back with as much of a positive attitude as possible. If you are sad by all means cry, cry, and cry and get it all out as much as possible. Distract yourself with good movies and good books. I pray for you to have courage. Many HUGS!!!XOXOXO

I was diagnosed in the right breast but decided on a bilateral mastectomy with immediate DIEP reconstruction. I like the other ladies did not want to do this again, so out they both came. I also went a lot smaller with the reconstruction, I was very very large breasted prior to this and was thinking about a reduction.

@A MyBCTeam Member You picked a wise surgeon. Mine also asked on the way to OR whether I truly wanted just the BMX without reconstruction. I told him on the way to make me firm and flat. He still left a chunk of tissue between my breasts - just in case I change my mind after the BMX. After 6 weeks, we returned to the OR and finished the job. He felt more comfortable giving me those weeks to adjust to the new me and, though I was furious right after the BMX, in hind sight, I appreciate what he had done for me.
