Help With Over The Counter Vitamins

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone know of any programs that help with the cost of over the counter medications? (Vitamins) I am supposed to be taking calcium, vitamin e and a multi vitamin daily……I know his sounds horrible, but I can't afford them! Last year during treatment a lot of things got out to the back burner while we dealt with fighting cancer, now the bills are catching up. I have a hsa that I use for my prescriptions, it's he over the counter that I am always out of and I can't really afford.

If you get an Rx from the doc, you can submit the receipts for reimbursement to your HSA. They won't pay for them up front, but should reimburse with a receipt and prescription. The same with other over the counter medications. The law changed a couple years ago to require this.

I have tried using my hsa card. Won't work. Tried it for prescription of Claritin too (when I was getting nuelasta shot) and it was declined with the script, and otc. :(

Check to see if you can use your hsa for vitamins if you get a rx from your doctor.

Is there a nurse navigator at your hospital that you can reach out to for assistance in finding help with the cost of things like vitamins? I feel for you and not being able to afford them. We are on a tight budget here and the extra copays from all the cancer treatments has hurt the weekly food budget. I try to use coupons, buy generics on certain things, any way to cut cost so I have a little extra here and there.

I am pretty sure you can use your HSA for OTC meds or bandages, etc. I don't know of any programs that help with those. Good luck!
