Taxol And Herceptin

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I just found out that I will need 3 months of taxol (weekly) plus Herceptin, then Herceptin alone for a year.
Anyone have this combination?

I also did 12 weeks/3 months of weekly Taxol (chemo) and Herceptin and continued having a year of Herceptin. Just finished in May.
I lost my hair on chemo but it started coming back after the 12 weeks of Taxol were done.
I iced my hands and feet during the Taxol infusions and thankfully didn’t experience any lasting neuropathy.
My breast cancer was stage 1, triple Positive with no node involvement.

Yes I did this treatment. I have one more hercepceptin treatment to complete a year. Lost all hair, has started growing but very slow. With chemo I did have neuropathy and still do. Let your doc know and he might can reduce your doseage. When you are doing only the herceptin you should be fine. I couldn't even tell I had it. It's very important to keep your protein level up, so add extra like protein bars. Best of luck, just remember this is temporary and you can get through it.

I just remembered a side effect of Herceptin that I found a bit odd. I thought it was just me until I was almost done with my year of Herceptin and realized that two friends that did Herceptin also had the same issue. The issue was I had a runny nose on Herceptin. So anyone just starting if you get this you are not alone.

Kris-If I remember correctly it was not immediate at all. I had probably 3 or 4 infusions before I noticed it starting to come out. It was like I would run my fingers through my hair and a lot just kept coming out. I had a lot of hair to begin with so I had a lot to lose. I remember thinking well maybe I won’t lose it all but I pretty much did. I never shaved my head my husband used his clippers and clipped it really short later in treatment. I did wear a soft turban a lot at home because my head would get chilly. Best of luck to you!

@A MyBCTeam Member, just started Taxol and had an allergic reaction to it, so they switched me to Abraxane. They told me it is pure Taxol minus some preservatives. So far not too many side effects but I'm only starting day 2. We'll see what happens..
