In consultation with your doctor, this is a very personal decision. Although some nurses were annoyed, my doctor supported me in my decision to not get a port unless it turned out that my veins wouldn't work. After 16 cycles, 4 with A/C, including blood draws, my veins are fine. Other than the poke (which happens each time with the port anyway), I never felt a thing. Now, I don't have to worry about any pain from the port, flushing the port, taking the port out, etc. I know the port is a miraculous discovery, and people who have used it say wonderful things, but not using a port may also be the right decision for some people.

Good luck Susan - it will be over before you know it - I swear I went to my first chemo kicking and screaming and here I am 2 days outside chemo #3 and staring down the last one - you will be too before you know it - we're all just kicking cancer to the curb and getting back to doing what we love πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™ jenifern said it well

Lost my hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes, too. And now they've all grown back. :-) Good luck on Thursday. I'm sure you, your nurses, and your veins will be great!

I had this as well. Used IV no problems.

As for the hair loss, it will probably happen at 14 days after first chemo. I left mine go and when it started to come out just stood over the tub and rubbed my head. Most of it came out that way. Head was a little tender and kept it covered when outside. Hair on legs became non-existent also eyebrows and some of the eye lashes. I had one woman who was a friend of mine and who had chemo a few years before me for BC tell me when you lose your hair you would probably lose it all over and be like a "baby" again. As in no hair anywhere..... Just had to laugh at that visual.
