RIB PAIN

Hi BC sisters

(Stage 1 low grade IDC /lumpectomy& 4 x weeks radiation)
I am almost 12 months post treatment and doing well , I have returned back to running over the past few months but with any increased pace I am experiencing rib pain on same side as my BC. ( so not sure if its from the running or just coincidence) ....feels like a stitch but to the back of my ribs and progresses to a very dull ache when I lift myself up e.g.... in the morning if I have slept on that side it really… read more

I use compression during my runs (I'm flat, so I use an abdominal binder up around my chest along with the LE sleeve and gauntlet). It's helped--I find there's much less ache....

I'm a couple years out and my ribcage is still tender. I noticed that running with compression helps me (I can get quite sore with exertion, but when I started using a surgical binder, it really helped.) I'm not sure what mine is... maybe a touch of lymphedema that flares up when I do hard cardio? Likely a lot of leftover radiation damage. Could be some scar adhesion or cording.... Could be many, many things that are not mets....

I know this only because I have a clean bone scan under my belt. :-) Try not to worry overmuch. Do speak with your oncologist about it at your appointment and ask about scans to put your mind at ease, but lingering pain is not an uncommon thing (especially if you've had radiation) and not necessarily sinister, especially if it's only started acting up after you started increasing your physical activity the way you just did.

Ladies thank you so much for the reply's , I try not to get to bogged down with side effects of BC etc. prefer to just get on with it , but its always in the back of your mind when something new occurs :) Erin I have found that heat ( hot water bottle) after my run has helped .. so not having so much discomfort this week :)

After my first bout with bc I had rib and breast bone soreness for 16 years.. No kidding. Since my bilateral mastectomy the soreness is worse. I could not lay on my right side for over a year.

I don't run but have rib tenderness. I seen posts from other women as well with the same thing. I think it's from the radiation. But if it continues don't wait a full month go in and see your onc. My onc always said give it the two week rule. If it persists for two weeks come see me.
