Green Tea And Black Tea During Chemo

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Avon Lake, OH

Has anyone been told to avoid Black and Green Tas during chemo. I was told by my chemo teacher that they have antiioxidants whic interfere with the chemo drugs. She did say it was OK to eat antioxidants in their natural form like fruit, but not tea.

I also can't help but wonder why the heck they serve hot drinks in styrofoam cups at my infusion center. I mean, c'mon now. Can't we have healthy snacks and paper cups?!

@A MyBCTeam Member - my first onc that left a year ago December wouldn't allow ANYTHING with the chemo - the new onc is Indian so she seems more open to things like turmeric and stuff but doesn't really monitor what I take. My second opinion doctor is also Indian but he was a personal trainer before he went to medical school and he's triple board certified in hematology, oncology and integrative medicine. He's the Director of Integrative Medicine at MD Anderson up at Cooper University Hospital in Camden here in NJ. MD Anderson is the number one cancer center in the country (main one in Texas) so when they talk, I tend to listen. Here is a youtube video if you want to check him out. This is the same presentation he gave us at a BC support group meeting. He blew me away! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF5tGOFR74o

@A MyBCTeam Member I agree. they contradict themselves these doctors and nurses. That is why in some instances you need to be your own doctor.

I had chemo teaching with a pharmacologist and had to give her a long list of what I was taking. The only thing she had a problem with was the black and green tea because of antioxidants. I had one of those Bai organic antioxidants drinks with me and she said that was fine. just wierd. In the chemo suite thry were passing around, coffee, tea, soda, all the high csrb food I am not suppose to eat. I asked if they had fresh fruit or veggies and the answer was No.

I have IBS so going was always a problem before chemo. I do not like taking medications but I had to do something. I tried Senokot. It is an all natural softener. It worked wonders. I also used a heating pad on low setting. Maybe that one was mind over matter. πŸ˜‰
