I agree with my physicians that scans are not needed unless there are other signs/symptoms present to indicate a need. "Peace of Mind" is not a clinical indicator of medical necessity.
Prophylactic scans expose us to unnecessary rads and stress since CTs are cheap but high rads and MRIs are too expensive to do prophylactically.

My onc is a bit scan happy as well, it annoyed me at first but I'm glad he's looking out for me. It could be the other way around, you can have a doctor who ignores your symptoms. Mine has calmed down now that it's been almost 4 years.

I am not sure how to gauge this question. I have stage IV and am doing CT upper and CT lower & bone density (as well as bloodwork) scans every 5-6 months.
I am only on Letrozole at present. Is that too many or too often,?
Isn't there one main indicator scan that could be done and then if it's iffy, then other scans. I don't like the radiation exposure, and they are stressful.
Anyone have any info or personal experience to share?

Insurance seems to be one of the biggest evils against us sometimes.

I have had an MRI or mammogram every six months for the last three years. Although I see it as a necessity, it wears on the brain and anxiety. It is scary but it does give you a peace of mind.
