Re: Medicaid Coverage

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I have a question regarding medicaid. Has anyone been dropped from being on Medicaid because you turned 65? I am also on Medicare, I am duel eligible for both and have been on both for two years. To qualify for Medicaid you have to have breast or cervical cancer. I'm stage4 MBC and terminal, my diagnosis will not change! Nobody ever told me I would be dropped at age 65! If I lose Medicaid, then I will lose BlueCarePlus,my primary that covers my scans, oncology appts., chemo and other life… read more

Yes SKnight52821 it's happening every where. In Texas so many have been dropped from Medicaid and not even 65. Many here in Texas have to reapply for it and get dropped quickly. Yes 65 is a cut off and not telling anyone until later on about it. Governor Abbott refuses to expand Medicaid in Texas. Continue to be persistent and appeal. πŸ™πŸ™

SNight, This is the most awful news. I understand the frustration and how scared you must be because you are fighting for your life. You cannot afford treatment without the help of Medicaid. I'm so sorry to hear this and I'm worried about my future.
Your painful experience is something I'm learning may happen to me.
Will you or are you getting Social Security payments on top of Disability payments?
I think being on Disability helps one get Medicaid.
You have some great advice here on this site with Virginia, Evelina and Sue. I too would reach out to your congressperson or anyone who represents TN in office.
I would get your family and friends to create a Face Book page where people can have this discussion. Get people aware of this and start a movement. When you start to get thousands of people then the Congressional representative can see there is a movement against losing Medicaid just because of age.

This is also Shocking news to me and I'm sure many others will be shocked and will want to help you.
I will pray for you and I hope we can make a movement that will change the legislation so that no one is left without financial help when they are fighting with cancer! I will post something on my Facebook page and when more people do it and get the attention of people around the country we can help to make a change. We have to vote for people who are willing to care for the people.

So sorry you are going through this. You have enough to worry about. You have been doing so well with your treatment. Praying you will get the answers you need.
This is scary when we can be uncertain about our coverage for our treatments. Aren't there foundations that will help when you don't have adequate coverage? Keep the faith and let us know your results.

There might be a a catch where each person on medicaid or other health insurance companies have a lifetime benefit cap on how much their going to pay out. Not deductible s etc something totally different like maybe a million dollars to pay for your treatments hospital etc for the rest of your life that your going to need care. Believe the costs for care do add up fast. They billed my insurance company 140,000 dollars just for my chemo treatments for 12 weeks total not including anything else. Of course the insurance only covered a fraction of what they billed for. But still I had medical bill payments I just paid off this year.

Sknight52851:

You are in my prayers.

You need backup support at your hearing.

Contact your Tenn. State Senator and your local Tenn. State Assemblyman.

If you have copies of all the paperwork submitted to TENNCare (Medicaid) or can get these copies from your Oncologist, send all this information to both of them and ask that they facilitate this for you so that it gets approved immediately and there is no dropping of coverage window.
Briefly explain your situation.

They can both make this move faster and ensure this. Plus, they should be aware of all this and how it effects their constituents in Tennessee.
They are the ones that can write bills and push them through the state legislature.

You are one of many in this unfortunate situation. Change needs to happen.

The US is the only country that does not provide free health coverage for all.

Free health coverage is the responsibility of all countries. It is a human right.
