Mammogram After Active Treatments

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

Anyone who had a lumpectomy, then did chemotherapy and then radiation and now on targeted therapies?
I had my radiation last April 25. My mammogram and follow up visit with my surgeon is on August 1st. Isn’t that too early for me to get a mammogram? How long after your radiation did you have your mammogram?

6 months post therapy is the national standard recommendation. For example: I finished radiation Dec 30th, 2022. I just completed my 6 month surgeon follow up and mammogram. It was with tremendous joy to get the "benign" results. A big Thank You to God and Dr. Tequilla Williams, Chattanooga, TN.

- Age and Risk Factors: Regular mammograms are crucial, especially if you are over 40, have a family history of breast cancer, or have a genetic predisposition.

Always consult with your healthcare provider to determine the best schedule for your situation.

I had a mammogram right after chemo before radiation and then another 6 months later... I just finished ( last week) my herceptin and perjeta treatments. I have another scheduled in October. They will do them every 6 months for a while.
