HER2+ER-MBC. Collagen And Body Pain.

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Meridian, ID

Have serious pain due to estrogen suppression and bone health injections. Have finished 7 months of chemo and am now on immunotherapy infusions. Is there any good research on BC and collagen? I'm new here and much appreciative. Have been on really good quality collagen hopping it will help but want more info. Thank you

Thank you for your comments.
I too believe that in the U.S. we are often overtreated with the highest dose and only cut back at complications.

We are dealing with mostly male Drs. who will never get breast cancer.
It is the unusual one who focuses on lower doses and really studies doses.

I would double check studies out of Europe. They are more advanced and prone to overtreat. I use gummie collagen supplements. What happened to quality of life? Reduced pain?

For HER2-positive and ER-negative metastatic breast cancer (MBC), it's important to consider the potential effects of collagen supplements. Here are some key points from the knowledge base:

- Collagen and Breast Cancer:
- Increased collagen in the breasts can influence breast cancer risk and prognosis.
- High levels of type 1 collagen are associated with a poor prognosis and breast cancer recurrence.
- Collagen can affect how cancer cells grow and spread.

- Collagen Supplements:
- There are no clinical trials specifically studying the effect of collagen supplements in people with breast cancer.
- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not evaluate supplements for safety or efficacy, which means the actual content of supplements can vary.
- Supplements may contain harmful substances such as heavy metals.

- Body Pain and Collagen:
- Some people with breast cancer treatment side effects, like joint pain, have reported benefits from collagen supplements.
- However, the safety and efficacy of these supplements are not well-studied.

- Caution:
- Always talk to your health care team before taking any supplements, including collagen, as they may have harmful side effects or interact with your treatment.

Make sure that you are using a plant collagen instead of animal collagen. Animal collagens may have hormone in them.
Plant collagens are metabolized differently and are in foods.

Clear this with your doctor. Have some information to back you up if you feel that your medical oncologist is anti-supplements and vitamins.

Research on Pub Med and other sites. There may not be a lot of information out there on this....

Please post back here what you find and also what happens...

Many thanks
