Chemo On Hold Having Neuropathy Side Effects. Trastuzumab
Trastuzumab causing neuropathy side effects. Chemo on hold, Dr talking steroids and then start chemo back up. Has anyone been there?
Neuropathy started within 3 months of my getting Taxol (paclitaxel). Began taking OTC B-12 supplements @ 5,000 mcgs per day (w/permission of my onco doc). This helped. Was taken off Taxol for about 6 months and am now on carboplatin. Still have neuropathy, still taking Vit B-12 supplements, am doing ok. Am VERY careful where and how I walk; writing is slow, but do-able, as is typing. Hope this info helps. Continue w/OT! Best of luck!
Thank you. Sounds like you have same treatment plan as me. 3 chemotherapy tx done 3 to go then lumpectomy radiation and 16 more chemo treatments. Did you have steroids? Did they switch your chemicals?
Hi Deb516,
I had chemotherapy, left mastectomy, radiation and T-DM1 infusion for a year. I off the chemotherapy since infusion since 1/17/23. I still have mild neuropathy on both hands and feet. Take Gabapentin 100 mg 2x a day. I also exercise daily which seems to help because I noticed if I don’t exercise my joints are stiff (I am taking Letrozole too).
I am guessing I have to live with some side effects from bc treatments. For me I am blessed and thankful to survive all the treatments and the side effects are small inconvenience and manageable. I take it as a reminder to myself to live a healthy lifestyle.
Hope I helped you.
Sending hugs and prayers.
My neuropathy in my feet and fingertips started during chemo with a combination of drugs. It hasn’t gotten much worse but still hasn’t gone away after the year of chemo, lumpectomy, radiation and infusion. Doctors aren’t sure how much will clear up eventually. I am doing OT for balance right now.
