I was told for MRI & PET scan that they had to see if insurance would pay for them so to make an appointment for those there was a wait period, not too long.

Basically, yes. CT chest/abdomen/pelvis plus a bone scan gives the same information as a PET. Some insurance companies do not pay for PET scans.
