SCANS SCANS & MORE SCANS
After the surgeries, chemo & radiations when women go back to get checked, is what kind of scan you get or how often determined by what stage the Breast Cancer is ?
MBC may not be curable, but is treatable, we want to live as long as we can. I am thankful for the 3 years they kept me alive. I pray for everyone going through this. Let's not be hurtful.
Ok Sue ...but my problem with mamo & ultrasound at 6 months or a year doesn't cover the whole body. We all know about these sneaky little tyrannical Breast cancer cells hiding somewhere so what if a mamo and ultrasound are clear but something is happening elsewhere no one knows about? Shouldn't we all get a CT scan at least yearly instead of mamo and ultrasound?
Eileen I wasn't implying that we stage 4 's weren't worth the extra attention, I was implying that every woman deserves the extra attention. I am sorry if I offended you in any way. Every single woman who has been diagnosed with Breast cancer should really be looked at and monitored very closely no matter what stage she has . I justed wanted to make that clear.
Exactly Susan, this just isn't right. Who in the hell decides these things? its like a few days after lumpectomy when it was thought I was Stage 1 and had a CT scan that showed sternal mets which was right next door to the Breast and my doctor then says lets do a PET scan to see if its anywhere else and sure enough it was found in 3 other places. Breast cancer cells don't just come back in the Breast and women need CT/MRI/PET scans every 6 months to a year .
I don't know. We are more likely to die and mess with the doctor stats? They don't want us all croaking so soon and making them look like incompetent angels of death and making their insurance so high they cant even practic?. Like, I'm 'cured' but we all know it will be back by my early 50's and take me out so they just scan like crazy I suppose? My thoughts or theory at least lol I had stage 2 grade 3 highly invasive ductal carcinoma that they were pretty sure was in my bones and we were waiting to see if the two random lung polyps or liver abnormality would be effected and therefore cancer. They just hit me with all the worst they could. But I'm Her2+ and hormone receptor positive and all that joy. I'm a dead woman walking so, what can you do? I think if you just get a lumpectomy and you're done count your lucky stars. I used to be an EMT in an ER and would tell the people complaining about the wait when others who got there after them were being seen first. Those people are not being favored, they are really having an emergency/dying. You see what I'm saying?
