My Radiology Oncologist Explained To Me Yesterday That Radiation Might Cause Problems With My Lungs. Is This A Common Side Effect?
Hardening of lung tissue, fibrosis?
I didn't have any effects on my lungs. However, when I had an X-ray 4 years later, the X-ray technician asked if I had radiation. So, there was scarring. All of my friends who have had it for BC have not had a problem. Be sure to moisturize with Galaxal lotion prior, during, and after radiation. Good luck. 🙏
I am very sorry to hear that your heart and lungs were damaged. It really makes me so nervous about radiation, but what choice do I have? I guess I do not have many options if I want to lower our chances of reoccurrence. How were they able to determine the amount of the damage done? Did they do some imaging after your radiation treatments?
They have to tell you all the risks. For me, biggest side effects were fatigue and reddened skin.
Wishing you well!
The only problem I had with radiation was a slight burning of my skin. The Dr. gave me a cream for it and I was fine. No other side affects that I am aware of.
I’m not sure what the evidence shows, but I know in my case it did cause some damage my first round of cancer, but nothing that interrupted my quality of life. The radiation they give in 2024 is far superior than even 15 years ago from what I have been told, and while there are risks, can’t be highly effective for certain types of cancers so I am taking it as well.
I try to do some sort of walk or exercise every single day to help with this and stay ahead of it.
I’ll be praying for minimal effects to your body. Hugs
