Bone Mets Pain

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have read here that women learned they had Breast cancer when they had to go to the ER for a fracture. Is there no pain that comes before a fracture & then suddenly 'something' breaks & you seek help?

Thanks for bringing this up. My fear, and I'm sure I'm not alone, is any form of metastisized cancer. Bringing these subjects to light empowers us to demand the care we need.
My oncologist is very attentive and I know that isn't always the case. I complained about having a lot of sinus congestion, so he ordered a CT scan of the sinuses. I had some spots on my chest x-ray which was attributed to pneumonia, but he wants to follow up with a chest CT scan just to make sure. I also get my cancer markers checked annually, which offers some comfort.
As patients, we need to make sure we are heard. If your doctor brushes you off or doesn't give you the attention you need, it's time to find one that does. I learned this from suffering with endometriosis the majority of my reproductive life. I had no idea it would prepare me for cancer.
Stay positive and get the treatment you deserve. Hugs pink sisters.

There has been a lot of publicity about women not being taken seriously by the medical profession. We know our bodies and if something is off, we need to take charge and insist that we be taken seriously. By my age (79) we tend to have some random aches and pains but when something new crops up we need to seek medical advice right away. Too often we are so busy taking care of everyone else that we blow it off until it is too late.

Barb, I had lytic lesions in my ribs, sternum and femur. I did not have radiation as they were not bad, most were hot spots. I am on a three treatment protocol; Zoledronic infusions to build the bones back up. Had six of these monthly and now move to every three months. I have 2 Fasolodex shots to take out the hormone receptors of my cancer cells so they cannot be fed by estrogen and finally I am on Ribociclib-Kasqali targeted theraphy to take out any cancer cells on any of my bones. I had my check up and all was stable. The doctor said my bones were a sea of white which says the bones have been built back up. I am as strong or stronger than before. I hope that your scans are clear, if not it is important to get the treatment that supports you. All the best! 🙏💕

My oncologist said I will get a PET when finished with treatment then there is a blood test she wants me to get every few months for quite a while that detects tumors. I’m thinking this is a good way to keep on top of it. My friend has been having the blood test for about a year and this last month the number went up. She is scheduled for brain, bone, liver, and thoracic scans this week. Scary but needs to check them out. This should be the protocol for all women with breast cancer! 💝

Barb66 I asked the Dr the same questions he reply was cancer kill people . I told him NO S&$&
He asked me are you saying the Dr didn’t do his job. I told him no I’m asking how to prevent from coming back some where else. He said he don’t think that will happen to me (yeah right) he said I will
Be under his supervision for years . I told him I guess I’ll be seeing you every time I get a new pain , he smile , I told him that his answer was very direct but he didn’t need to remind me.

I believe that whatever is going to end our life is written we cannot hide from it. We might buy sometime but is written.

In the meantime I thank god for every day I wake up . you do have a valid question.

You know the reason why they don’t to more test is because the insurance won’t pay for it .

We pay for the insurance policy and insurance dictate our plan.

That another topic lol
