When Are We Considered A BC Survivor?
Thank you for sharing everyone 🙏❤️.
My onco said my breast surgeon “cured” me after my mastectomy (clear margins & nodes) but not convinced because I’m on chemo..
I think I’ll feel comfortable saying I’ve survived when I’m done with the last session.. but then I have to be on anti-hormone pills for next 5-10 years.. guess I’ll think of it as taking vitamins?!🤦♀️
I'm guessing as long as we are still alive, we are survivors. My late husband had terminal pancreatic cancer but he was still referred to as a survivor while he was alive even though he was still in treatment.
Having been a survivor 15 years, I have considered this as from the day I completed treatment ( post lumpectomy and radiation) I was told this concept by my radiation oncologist. I rather like this as it gave me hope!
At what point are you considered cancer free?
"In a complete remission, all symptoms and signs of cancer go away and there's no detectable cancer in the body—based on scans, blood work and/or other tests, such as a biopsy. If you are considered in complete remission for more than five years, some doctors may say that you are cured." Apr 25, 2023

I too have asked myself the same question. Is it when treatment is over and you are clear or when they say they got it all?
When Is One Considered A Survivor? I Was Using The Date Of Surgery, But Was Recently Told It Is From The Day Of Diagnosis.
