Anyone Have Dense Tissue With Calcification That Became Cancer?
I have dense tissue as well - 3D mammogram found suspicious calcifications. Got a biopsy and determined they were cancerous. Initially it was ductal carcinoma stage 0 and surgeon recommended a lumpectomy. Upon MRI, they found it had spread to other parts of the breast and recommended a mastectomy. I had surgery to remove the breast and after analyzing the tissue, I learned I had triple positive BC and they upped it to stage 1. I have had 6 rounds of chemo, and I am now on hormone therapy. Just went for another mammogram and have the same issue with calcifications on the other breast. . I am having the diagnostic mammogram this week to find out what's going on. Chemo should kill everything, right? Not exactly. Apparently, mutations can cause new kinds of cancer to come back. So, yes - calcifications can become cancer, but sometimes they don't. I'm hoping yours aren't cancerous, and I'm really hoping mine aren't! Good luck!
Have first appt with oncologist next Wednesday. Trying to educate myself.
I have dense tissue. Think most of us do. I remember my radiologist mentioned calcification at my 2nd mammo & ultrasound.. he said I needed a biopsy and it turned out to be invasive ductal carcinoma.
It’s ALOT - educating myself didn’t even cross my mind .. didn’t know there were so many different types of BC. I’m slowly learning now but at the same time, I don’t want this to consume my life..
Hang in there - you’ll get through ~
And wish you the best with your first onco visit!🙏❤️
He referred me to a breast surgeon right away. She ordered MRI’s, oncotype testing, blood test, recommended gene testing and referred me to a plastic surgeon. She also gave me an option of lumpectomy + radiation or mastectomy.
I met with the plastic surgeon and decided double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction using DIEP flap (did not want to do radiation). Love the surgeons and love the result.😊
All my tests came out good so I did not expect to get chemo but my oncotype score came out high so my surgeon made an urgent appt for me with an oncologist and here I am - just finished my 3 of 4 chemo treatment + cold cap.
My onco is planning to put me on anti-hormone pills for next 5-10 years… not really looking forward to it..
I did not go for 2nd opinion. I was comfortable and confident in my breast surgeon so I’m going with all her referrals~ 😊
