Per post op instructions, I am not using deodarant right now, and I use a natural one pre-surgery which has always worked. The past week or so, the armpit on the lymph node removal side is really stinky. I'm showering daily since Sunday, and wiping the armpit with rubbing alcohol. If it matters, I just stopped taking the heavy pain meds on Sunday.

Adding what worked for me since my doctor told me no deodorant including body spray for 6 weeks post surgery in the armpit where I had lymph nodes removed. I started wiping my armpits with rubbing alcohol after my daily shower and that has resolved it. Sharing for anyone else looking for another option.

Dealing with underarm odor after breast surgery, such as a bilateral mastectomy and sentinel node removal, can be challenging. Here are some tips that might help:

1. Cornstarch Application: Use cornstarch to keep the underarms dry and reduce friction, which can help minimize odor. You can apply cornstarch with less mess by placing a small amount into a thin sock or stocking and gently tapping it against your armpit.

2. Gentle Deodorants: Once your incision has healed and your doctor approves, consider using a gentle, unscented deodorant. Some members of the MyBCTeam community have found success with brands like Clinique, which is unscented, and others have used vegan products from Love Beauty and Planet.

3. Regular Hygiene: Maintain regular hygiene by gently washing your underarms with a mild soap during your daily shower. Be gentle to avoid irritating the skin.

4. Consult Your Doctor: If the odor persists or is very strong, it's a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider. They might have additional recommendations specific to your situation.

These steps can help manage underarm odor effectively after your surgery.
