How Many Have ILC And What Was Done ? How Many Needed A 2nd Surgery To Clear Margins?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Rochester, NY

What was your diagnosis and Dr.
plan?
After all procedures what checks are in place for any testing such as mammograms and ultrasounds and/or MRI and how often?

Please be sure to add ILC to your information description on your home page.

@Marylyn2

There will be no battle between the mammogram site and you.

You are stage 3. They did a disservice to you to not do the ultrasound with the mammogram.

You can even get your oncologist to write that he wants an ultrasound now before your MRI scheduled for March 2025.
Tell the site then that if they do not comply with your oncologist, you will take your business elsewhere.

Call your insurance now at some point and tell them that your oncologist wants an MRI March 2025 and get permission from oncologist for the ultrasound and get that done now.

Ask your insurance for a written confirmation of the ultrasound and MRI…by email is ok but you need facts in dealing with these radiology sites.

They do not call us Wonder Women and warriors for nothing. It is your life and not the mammogram site’s life.

@A MyBCTeam Member - my decision was made FOR me - as stated in other posts - we lobs need to be very VERY concerned [due diligence regarding gad tox] given the amount and/or frequency of contrast mri's that are needed for OUR surveillance

in my refusal of the gad, 2 sep surgeons @ prominent e. coast b.c. facilities REFUSED to perform the lumpectomy

i had 2 small lobs less than 2 cm so would have STILL been a candidate for lump. however the pre-surgical requirement would have been the GAD mri

i know what's coming though - until they find better imagery for lobs [without frequent subjection to a toxic heavy metal] i know lob carcinomas aren't seen on typical scans - making the contrast mri my only choice

so i foresee a L mastectomy in my future 😢 - but the lob groups are on it & devising imagery sensitive for sneaky cells that are less invasive than gad

*** note - i'm AM aware of the natl. lobular groups [thanks susan] which also had speakers attending the consortium on gad that i spoke of in another post

the bottom line for me was learning how these diabolical pokey sneaks grow - fascinating on the loss of e-caderhin making them FLAT, and stealthy -therefore deadly - since they are much larger when caught

i didn't want to be forever looking over my shoulder until someone invents some better scanning -

wishing you the best in your decision making lori - they [?} sure don't make it easy do they?

Hi Sue 10, five years ago I was diagnosed with ILC. Had a lumpectomy. Two weeks later went in again for surgery to remove and check a few lymph nodes and clear the margins. I had 23 treatments of radiation and then given letrizole for five years. After second year experienced lots of aches and pains more than I’ve ever had , was eventually switched to exemestane .on exemestane almost two years now three days a week experiencing same kinds of aches in legs , hips thighs.just took myself off meds .

I had a lumpectomy after neoadjuvant chemo for ILC. Surgeon had to remove additional tissue during surgery to achieve clear margins. Luckily that was successful, and I didn't need a second surgery.
