It's great that you're preparing for your radiation treatment. Here are some tips from my knowledge base on managing skin care during radiation therapy:

- Moisturize Before and During Radiation Therapy: Start moisturizing treated areas even before you notice any skin changes. Use fragrance-free lotions, creams, or ointments for sensitive skin, and follow your doctor’s recommendations. A MyBCTeam member recommended, “Use the lotions generously. Be sure to wash them off before treatment, and apply them as soon as possible afterwards. Don’t wait to start using them. If you wait till you think you need them, it’s too late.”

- Use Gentle Skin Care Products: Your skin will be especially sensitive while undergoing radiation. Follow your cancer care team’s recommendations for which products you can use during this time. In general, it’s best to avoid applying strongly scented products, which can cause irritation in some people, directly on the treated breast. Look for packaging that says “fragrance-free” instead of “unscented.”

- Keep Skin Moisturized: Apply moisturizer before radiation treatments. Some lotions, creams, ointments, deodorants, and perfumes may irritate affected skin, and some skin products can leave a residue on the skin that may make it more sensitive.

Remember to always follow your doctor's specific recommendations for your skin care routine.
