Has Anyone Used Taxotere And Cytoxan And It Negatively Impacted Heart Health Or Other Issues?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Athens, AL

I am 75 years old, ER positive PR negative, Her2 negative breast cancer. I have a 20% chance of recurrence somewhere else in my body within the next 9 years, but with chemo that reduces to 5% chance. Suggested treatment plan is taxotere and cytoxan, radiation and hormone blocking pill. Since I have history of afib and myocarditis, currently controlled by meds, I am concerned about how these drugs will impact my heart.

Hi Linda! You have the same diagnosis as I did. ER+, HER- and PR-. I was on chemo Tecentriq, Adriamycin, Cytoxan and Abraxane then onto radiation for several weeks. After that, I had a lumpectomy and have been on a few AI's. I kept switching because my emotions were stupid. However, since they mess with your hormones, there's no getting around that. Right now, I take Exemestane and just deal with it. I am 70 years old and doing well, If I can help in any way, please let me know.

I looked at that link. It was very helpful. Thank you! I didn't know that it came in lower dose. I will talk to her about starting me on the 5 mg. I know some people seem to do fine, but some can't. Appreciate your help.

Wow! That was scary. Another thing that concerns me, is the fact that the two closest relatives I had who had chemo did not do well. An aunt on my mother's side was bed fast and on oxygen for the remainder of her life after chemo and an uncle on my dad's side just fell dead after or during chemo. Of course, this was several years ago and different cancers. I am not familiar with the Ki67 marker test. Did your oncologist do it for you or did you have to request it?

Hi Linda, please read my story. I am a lot younger than you and had heart problems from the first infusion. I had this cocktail they’re proposing you and it’s horrible. You really do have other options. You could ask for just Taxol (which is similar to Taxotere but supposed to be lighter). You don’t need to do the Citoxan at all. Many women just get Taxol and Herceptin.
I’ve been studying this now for a year (just finished my treatments) and docs overtreat. You need to remember they don’t really care about your side effects. Up to 30% of women with bc die within 30 days due to chemo treatment. So please, be very careful with the chemo. Many women go for it out of fear, but you really need to weigh the pros and cons yourself as the doctors won’t do that for you. Al the best
