Scananxiety Or Scan Fears. What Do You Do To Get Through Any Of These Procedures?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I think that scan fear for BC patients is universal.
It is not just enough to say that you have scan fears.

What works to get you through these????

I think women who have fear and/or anxiety should take the first available appointment and make it early in the morning to prevent having to dwell on it for weeks. The sooner the appointment is the better to reduce stress buildup

You have to stand your ground and ask for management if need be.

Let no one push you around or cause you further anxiety. Period.

Everyone has a boss. You matter. They truly have a job because of you.

Love and prayers.

After my 1 year follow up mammogram I was put on a regular annual schedule and told I would no longer get immediate results. Having to wait afterwards causes me more anxiety than anticipating a scan.

Scan results don't scare me. I get anxious with closed MRI machines and with scans I have never had before but that's about claustrophobia not results.

OK....I just read this thread of conversation and after my career in healthcare I am screaming in my head! I have a sharp pain behind my left eye as well. WTH.
None of this is acceptable.
1. I will NEVER pay money to have a test done and will NOT accept them saying they do not call insurance. Please get me your Leader/Director etc. NOW.
2. Fixing mistakes in the electronic medical record can be a total nightmare. This is true. Why? There are access and who has rights to change the documentation issues, etc. The staff will never tell you that. Hell, they may have no clue themselves. You may be smarter than they are. Opps, my attitude is showing!
3. Staff and lack of attention, focus, and attitude totally blows my mind. There are a handful that I would totally fire on the spot if they had been working for me. Believe me I have totally lost my mind and put the fear of the higher power in many over the last few years.
4. Overall, it is a "Total Shit Show" compared to what care was like back in the 80's unfortunately. Having a RN with you is very helpful to find your way through the mess, actually having someone with you that listens and asks good questions works well too. But I have been very disappointed in healthcare.
I'm on my soap box again...I 'm getting down now.
