How Do Bone Metastases Happen?
I have questions about bone metastases, but I don't even know how to ask them so I'll try and hopefully someone will understand what I am asking
I had 2 bone mets that are stable. Both areas received radiation. My CA 15.3 & CA 27.29 numbers lowered in August but increased 16 points a week ago. Today, a new bone mets has been diagnosed on a CT scan
The question does stable bone metastases get accounted for in a CA 15.3 TEST which I am not sure if stable means not an active cancer. And if… read more
I'm feeling...well I'm not feeling anything out of the ordinary just like I said I wouldn't. I mean, I know this is going to continue for as long as I live. I dread having to go to radiation for 5 days in a row but all in all 1 new mets since July 2023 is pretty good.
I know from the moment they find cancer, it can enter your blood. Although mine was caught early , it spreads quickly. They were worried that little micro cells maybe floating around . The chemo is to ensure they are eradicated before they attack an organ or bonesetc.
Wow the AI explained it basically.
Various tools are used to monitor cancer progression and treatment response. For some cancers, tumor marker blood tests, such as the CA 15-3 blood test, can be indicative of tumor changes.
The cancer antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3) biomarker test is used to monitor breast cancer and its response to treatment. The CA 15-3 antigen is a protein released into the bloodstream by breast cancer, various other cancers, and even some benign (noncancerous) conditions.
CA 15-3 is one of several substances classified as tumor markers, which may increase as a malignancy progresses and decrease as a tumor gets smaller in response to cancer therapy. It is one of several tumor markers used to monitor people with stage 4 breast cancer (also known as metastatic breast cancer).1 While some oncologists (specialists who treat cancer) will use the test as a way to detect breast cancer recurrence, it is not recommended for this purpose.
Due to its potential for false-positive results (results that read as positive for cancer when there is no cancer), the American Society of Clinical Oncologists (ASCO) advises against the use of tumor marker tests to screen for new or recurring breast cancer.6

Yep @A MyBCTeam Member. I really don't believe every cancer cell can be eliminated from our body. It metastasizes while on cancer treatment so being off treatment, there's nothing a woman can do. What a dreadful terrible disease this is.
