Itching When In Sun Or Sweating?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

How long does this last? It started after chemo. I finished radiation at the end of October. Now just on Arimtez or generic thereof. Has anyone any tips for the itching or when it goes away? It's hard to think about exercising when it will make me itch so much.

I get a lot of itching at the lump scar and between my breasts but I also had shingles there so I think some of it is that. Gently use knuckles no nails and I use cereve lotion.and crème

Especially in winter when cold weather dries out the skin more and indoor heating can do the same. There is no reason to shower daily. Even every other day can be too much. If you want to 'freshen up' certain areas, buy no fragrance/no alcohol baby type wipes. Let the natural oils in your skin come out.

Hot showers will dry out your skin even more Reva and actually if you can go without a shower for a few days it might be helpful to give your skin time for its natural oils to come out. And look for a moisturizing type shower soap .

Good point @A MyBCTeam Member about using knuckles and not nails to scratch those itches. When I had poison ivy I wore mittens and scratched myself wearing them because I was ripping my skin apart using nails making it much worse.

Chemo and radiation can make your skin drier and more sensitive to the heat and sun. Its pretty normal. The duration depends on the person and their sensitivy. Get some really good lotion and apply as needed, usually at least 2 times a day. A really hot shower or bath will only make it worse so be careful. Hoping you're feeling better today. Please let us know how you're doing!! Endless hugs
