It's normal to experience pain after port placement, including neck pain, as your body adjusts to the device. Minor bleeding, bruising, and soreness are common for the first couple of days. However, if the pain worsens instead of improving, or if you notice swelling, fever, or other unusual symptoms, contact your oncologist. For relief, consider sleeping on your back with a supportive pillow and avoiding heavy lifting or clothing that irritates the port area. I used ice and Tylenol. It was better after a day or 2

Sorry Leesa for all these emotions roller coasters you’re going through. I also had chemo the following day of port placement and was indeed surprised about that. I hope your chemo goes ok. Try to be with someone around you the first 3-4 days because all kinds of trouble can happen. I had fainted and thankfully was not alone, but I live alone, so it could’ve been much worse. In any case, don’t mean to scare you, just be careful for yourself those first few days. Wishing you it goes well though. Sending healing hugs 🥰

I hope everything goes well, yes, I had my port installed on a Thursday afternoon, and chemo the next morning. The nurse iced the area before accessing to numb it. There are numbing agents (they gave me an Rx for a lidocaine cream) but I was not allowed to use it so soon after the surgery to place it. I used the cream after that, as instructed, but I did have "surprise" labs once during an appt, and of course, no cream or time to apply. It was no biggie, did not hurt anymore than any other stick, just different because they apply pressure. Just a little FYI- lol!

I hope everything goes well, and you are quickly home resting comfortably!

Thank you! I had the port in yesterday and start chemo today. It’s just crazy to me that they can start chemo without you being fully healed and in so much pain. This is a very hard and emotional day.
