I Tend To Spit Out Bloody Mucus Is This Normal Since Start It Treatment
Karen, it may be blood from the nasal passages, as my chemo progressed and the platelet counts would drop (you can ask about your lab numbers- platelets are needed for blood to clot properly) I ended up with a frequent bloody nose. And since I had lost hair with chemo, including nose hair- there is no speed bumps, I would have to have something ready as soon as I felt a tickle. Tissues were no match, so I switched to the Vanity Fair Dinner napkins, soft, absorbent but stronger than tissues. As a preventative, I used a humidifier at night, and used a nasal saline spray throughout the day to prevent the nasal tissues from drying out and being more prone to a nose bleed. A little dab of Vaseline with a Q-Tip helped to keep the area moist around a scab when it formed. This cleared up pretty quickly once chemo was done. Hugs!
Spitting out bloody mucus can occur during chemotherapy for breast cancer, especially with treatments like gemcitabine, platinum, anthracycline, or taxane-based regimens (e.g., Taxol). This may be due to dryness or irritation in the nasal passages or throat caused by chemo. However, it’s important to inform your doctor, as Show Full Answer
