I did OTC Tylenol after the mastectomy, but I do not like the way pain meds make me feel, so they are def my last choice. After a few days, I really did not need the Tylenol, except at night because of trying not to sleep on my side, and getting really stiff in the process!

I only needed the Dilaudid the night of my surgery then was on Tylenol for 2 days and then nothing. This was after a lumpectomy and some reconstruction. Everyone experiences pain differently. If you need it take it

I followed the pain pill regimen for about 4 or 5 days until I was sure the worst was no longer an issue. I dropped the serious drug after 3 or 4 days, then tapered off ibuprofen. I started forgetting to take the meds on the schedule, so I figured there must not be a real need.

A former doctor once told me to stay on top of the pain. If you quit too soon, it takes a lot more to get on top of it again. Take it as long as you feel you need it.

I also had a lumpectomy Jan 2 with 5 lymph nodes removed. I was able to use extra strength tylenol during the day and used stronger pain meds at night the first week and a half mainly due to being more uncomfortable. I have found since going back to work that I'm in a bit more pain in the evenings from using my arm and my left side. My incision is on the left side of my left breast. I can offer that you just need to do what feels right for you and to stay on top of the pain management. It's easier to take the medication before you really need it than once you realize you're in pain. Good luck and reach out -- we've all been through it. Hugs for fast healing!

I had a lumpectomy with lymph node removal (11 total) on Jan 2 this year. The pain was very manageable the first couple days with Tylenol during the day & 1 pain med at night. Then by day 4 I wasn't taking any pain meds, just Tylenol. 4 weeks post & other than some soreness from stretching & sleeping on that side at night, I'm pain free! Prayers for a quick recovery for you!
