Did Your Surgeon Recommend A Bra Post Implant Reconstruction? For How Long? Did You?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

My surgeon recommends a sports bra for at least 4 weeks post implant reconstruction. He advises wearing it longer if the patient is agreeable. My internet search found varying options from other surgeons. Some do not advise a bra at all. I'm trying to be patient, but after 8 months of the expanders I just want to wear my normal clothes again and most of them don't look good with a sports bra:)

I had my surgery in July and was told by my doctors to wear sports bras and i find that the ones the snap up in the front are the best ones to wear and you can find them at Walmart. I bought 2 for $5 they came as a pair and are comfortable.I was told to wear them every day and night for a month.

A year later after my last post: I wear regular bras and regular sports bras to work out in. My BS said that support is still important with the implants. I agree, especially if you are active. I've been working on building my chest muscle up for upper body strength and arm strength. I like to do the elliptical for cardio and jog little distances on the treadmill.

BarbReynolds I found that after both my surgeries the surgical bra got very uncomfortable and when I saw my plastic surgeon and she told me finally that I could start wearing a regular sports bra which I find very comfortable. I went and bought the ones that snap in the front. Ask your surgeon if you can wear them.

I just had my exchange surgery. My dr. wasn't very specific on this and it is a big question for me. I have been wearing my surgical sports bra 24/7 so far and from what I have read, I will keep that up for weeks. If anyone has any more info to share, I would appreciate it.
