Would Like To Hear From Anyone Who Has Done The 12 Weekly Taxol Treatments
I want to hear about your experiences because this will be coming up in my future. I know everyone reacts differently but I really want to know all the dirty little details so I can be prepared. I am really hoping to work as a preschool teacher through at least some of the treatment, so if you worked or found you just couldn't please tell me about that too.
AC sucks in a "in your face" kind of way. You just feel like poo.
For me, Taxol was sucky in a more insidious, annoying kind of way. It didn't smack me in the face with exhaustion and chemo brain and all that.. instead there were lots of little side effects that were just really annoying.
Neuropathy - pain/tingling/numbness in the extremeties. Doesn't sound bad, but it's annoying. Vit D helps, but most oncologists tell you to "just let me know if it doesn't go away."
Bone pain - stabbing pains and aches in random bones. Again, this is mostly annoying. Doesn't keep you from doing work or being a productive member of society, but it makes the days feel longer.
Fatigue - no where NEAR as bad as AC, but some of those small side effects just feel exhausting after awhile.
Nose bleeds? - I can't remember if this was AC or Taxol, but the random nose bleeds were, again, annoying.
Nail bed lifting - Your fingernails may begin to separate from your nail beds. They COULD fall off (has happened to some). Mine just started to lift, which meant I needed to wear gloves when working outside or cleaning because otherwise it felt like things were getting stuck down there.
Again, none of these on their own were all that bad, but you put them all together and you just kind of feel like you are falling apart. It's like one little thing after another and you're just so ready to be done with chemo.
Granted, I will say that I tended to be the person who got it ALL with Taxol, I read like the Taxol commercial when the guy lists all the possible side effects of the drug at the end in that really fast reading voice.
I wish you the very best and I hope you get NONE of it.
I had 4 AC, and then 12 taxol. The taxol was WONDERFUL compared to the AC. On Taxol I was tired (but still worked full time 12 hour shifts). My finger nails and toenails did not fall off, but I took glutamine supplements 30 GRAMS 3 x a day powder I bought from GNC. This also stopped me from getting neuropathy as a side effect of Taxol. My hair started growing back in on the fourth treatment. My tongue got sore and I tried to get thrush a time or two, but Colgate "mouth sore" mouthwash you can get a Walmart that has hydrogen peroxide in it, Kills thrush before it starts. AVOID SPICY FOODS, and buy Gaviscon (it is for heartburn). Other than that, I think you will fly right through the taxol! An occasional flash of nausea and just the heartburn was my major issues. I had hot flashes through all of chemo and still do (on tamoxifen now). The day OF CHEMO itself, I couldn't sleep that night due to the steroids they give you before they give you taxol. And the Benadryl they gave me before taxol too made my restless legs horrible. But it was only for the day OF chemo.
I had the 12 Taxol treatments!! As long as, you eat right, and make sure you, don't retain fluid, you will be fine!!! Most, chemotherapy treatments are different for everyone!!! I got a little tired, at the end, so rest as much as you can!!! Keep a positive attitude, and laugh as much as you can!!! Remember, You can beat Breast Cancer!!! God has you!!! Be blessed!!! Hugs my Friend!!!
I did 4 AC cycles prior to my 12 weekly Taxol cycles. I honestly found the AC to be 10 times worse than the Taxol. The AC made me tired, gave me bone pain (from the Neulasta wbc booster shots), made me nauseous. With Taxol the worst side effects were some fatigue, nail pain (a lot of my nails chipped and almost fell off), and severe hot flashes. I was only 23 at the time (24 now) and those hot flashes sucked. And while I got progressively more fatigued as the treatments continued, I definitely had more energy on that then I did on AC. If you have any other questions, feel free to post on my page!
I did the 12 weeks of taxol and it made my bones hurt, and tired but not too bad. Definitley not like the AC that was prior to that. I did get a little neuropathy from it they gave me meds for that and they seemed to work. Good luck
