Taxol Side Effects
Wondering if there is anyone who had minimal side effects from taxol? All I have been reading is that you are having a lot of bone and joint pain, etc. I have done really well so far with my chemo currently it is FAC. I will complete my 5th and final round of that March 9th. Then once I deliver my daughter I will do 4 rounds of taxol ( every two weeks).
I am pretty nervous to start the taxol. So I would also like to hear the other end of the spectrum. What were the common or worse side effects… read more
I was pregnant when diagnosed in April 2014 myself @A MyBCTeam Member. I did 3 rounds of AC before my baby was born, the 4th one a week after my baby girl, then surgery, then 12, weekly rounds of Taxol. AC made me very fatigued, thankfully my counts never fell too low. On Taxol the main complaints were fatigue again, joint pain, neuropathy type jabs (which went away after the Taxol). It is not as bad as AC, but you would still need lots of rest. I used cold mitts for my hands and feet while I got taxol as that helps reduce neuropathy symptoms and also took Allegra daily (As recommended by my onc. as it also helps with taxol). I was terrified through it all, but now that chemo ended november 2014 and I'm getting herceptin only and my baby girl is happy and healthy, I can look back and be grateful that its over.Sending you good wishes and strength!
Hi @A MyBCTeam Member
First off, the baby news is wonderful to hear!! I hope you are feeling well and wish you a easy birth for a healthy beautiful baby!!
Taxol was slower and more cumulative for me. I had 12 rounds (once week x12 consecutive) which was after my 4 AC treatements. I was pretty good w Taxol (minimal SE's) up until about #8 and I hit a wall. At the last couple my muscle pain really set me back. I have always worked and and was very strong and this was also a mental blow to be so depleted.
I have a 2 and 4 yr old so there was no rest, no down time. At night I would just about cry thinking of disrupted sleep. My best advice to you is try to sleep (new baby makes that almost impossible) as best you can through the night and it will help the days. Can your husband do some night feedings? Can you breast feed? If so put the hubby on diaper duty and you can BF while you are lying in bed..half asleep ha. I BF both kids but that was prior to diagnosis.
I only managed 4 weekly treatments of Taxol before I had to switch to once every three week Taxotere. I had nonstop diarrhea, low electrolytes, anemia, dehydration, joint pain, and neuropathy in my hands and feet (that I still have 3 months later). I did not recover from one week to the next. The Taxotere I still had minor side effects from, but I felt better for over a week before my next infusion.
I had kept my eyebrows, eyelashes until I got on Taxol then those went and I am soon to loose the toe nails on my big toes from it to. I only got 10 out of 12 Taxol treatments before they stopped it due to Neurothapy in my feet.
I completed 3 out of 12 rounds of Taxol+ Herceptin and I haven't had any side effect yet. My hair is still here, which I didn't anticipate. Maybe it is still a little early in the treatment and things will beggin to happen soon..... I developed anemia, though. Can anyone else relate to my chemo experience????
