Who Has Done The AC--T Regime Every Two Weeks?
What did you feel like? Sickness? Hair loss? I am getting ready to start in a couple weeks and wondering what to expect....
I did. Nausea was bad but keep up on anti nausea pills and that will help a lot! Drink lots and lots of water and if you get sick of water drink more water...or alternate with Gatorade :) My hair started falling out really bad right after my 2nd treatment. I felt like I had medicine head and my brain felt foggy all the time. If it's warm where you live get out and take short walks...that helped too!I just finished up with my whole AC+T regimine 1.5 weeks ago. Good luck to you...you'll do great and soon enough you'll be an expert giving advice to others!
Nausea for a few days but had nausea meds that helped, steroids helped with the neulasta shots,so no side effects from that. lost hair after third treatments. Just get alot of rest. Drink lots of water to clean out your kidneys. Stay strong and keep fighting!!!!
Everyone reacts differently. I did 4 rounds of AC every other week, then 4 rounds of T every other week. I was one of the few who got most of the side effects. I totally agree with BYUfanatic - drink lots and lots and lots of water. That helps move the medicine through and out of your system. Treat the side effects if/when they first appear - don't try to tough it out (I tried that with the mouth sores, and got to the point where it hurt to even drink water). Do what you can, and rest when you need to. I had serious "chemo-brain", nausea, mouth sores, hair loss, neuropathy, chemo triggered menopause ... The works! I agree with Justine - don't eat foods you like. I finished chemo in April, 2012 and still can't even think of sushi. The pre-meds for the Taxol left me sleeping for a day, then bone / joint aches would kick in. I had days where I had trouble walking from one end of the house to the other. However, it is for a finite time - even if it does feel like forever!!! Take help where it is offered (I loved having people take the kids to / from school so I didn't have to worry about driving when I was tired or didn't feel well. You will get through it, no matter what happens, because you want to fight the cancer more. Hopefully you have an easy time with it!
I did. My last treatment was 10/11/12- a year already! I didn't have any real issues. Never got sick, didn't need nausea medicines. Starting losing my hair 2 weeks in just like clockwork. I ate well, high protein, low fat, no artificial sweetners, etc. I exercised several times a week also. I rested when I was tired and went to bed earlier than I did pre-chemo. Towards the end of treatment I started experiencing neuropathy, but that is not as bad as it was during treatment. The worst pain was from yhe Neulasta shot. I would have bone pain after the shot for about 2-3 days. Good luck! Dose dense is the way to go if you can- you'll finish so much sooner.
Good morning, Danielle. Had to comment here. I'm doing ACT. It's called the red devil bc its one of the strongest, if not the strongest and most toxic chemo treatment there is. I approached it with an open mind though bc, as you can see, everyone reacts differently. I recently finished AC (4 rounds, 1 every 2 weeks), and am now on 12 weekly rounds of taxol. Had my first taxol on Monday. I have to admit, AC wasn't easy for me but I powered through it. The best thing I can say is stay hydrated, get plenty of protein, started a mouth rinse such as baking soda, salt, and warm water (that worked best for me). Surprisingly, I didn't have joint pain or much nausea. As for joint pain, I have always taken supplements such as emu oil and a mushroom blend which I believe helped me with that. As for nausea, you'll be given meds to help you with that during and after your infusion, I assume, through a port. If you have any issues, let your onc team know right away. We're here to help through this.
