For TNBC patients. I've had a/c and Taxol then bilateral BMX...now I'm gearing up for what I'm told is platinum based chemo for three months. Wondering what people really experience on it? Thanks!!

My first tumor--in 2000-- was TN: treatment lumpectomy, AC then Taxotere, followed by RADs
In 2013 the tumor was again TN. Mastectomy, carboplatin and taxotere, as well as A. No rads because the body doesn't react well to a second round of them. I had a sentinel node biopsy pre-op. It showed sentinel nodes on the opposite side, which happens relatively often. They were negative.

Hi Kim! I also have TN. I'm on the platinum regimen. My treatment started with taxol and carboplatin for the first week, then weekly taxol, and carboplatin added every 3 weeks. Last, 8 weeks of AC every other week. I was going to do my last taxol/carbo today, but have a bit if a cold, so not till next week now.the combo carbo drug is a bit rougher than just taxol, but nothing unbearable. I usually feel crappy for 2-3 days vs. 1 1/2 days. My symptoms for the combo drug tends to be nausea, more fatigue and light headedness. It also tends to deplete your red blood and platelets more. What's helped me is to ask for a bag of hydration during chemo and two days after chemo. Water is key with this combo drug! Oh, and have them add nausea meds after chemo hydration too!!! I know you can totally handle this!!!! You got this. I hope this helps. I will keep you in my prayers my pink buddy ;)

Hi ladies! Thought i would update you on how I did on carboplatinum. It was much easier than a/c or taxol. Dr said it would be since a/c is much harder...carbo will be a breaze, it was. Hardest part for me at that point was my veins. With no port my veins are just worn out! I'm off to radiation next week. I will do 5.5 weeks of rads then I should finish just a few weeks before Christmas! PTL!!!!

Hi,bbarnes, your almost there!!!! I'm also terrified if starting ac too!!!! I still have 3 more taxols before I start. Are they giving you a break in between the taxol and ac? Once step closer to getting our life back!!

I had the same regimen. Just finished the weekly taxol with carbo every 3 weeks. It's not too bad. Yes, drink LOTS of water. I was anemic most if the time but it was manageable. I'm starting AC in 2 weeks and I'm scared to death.
