Has Anyone Made It Through 6 Courses Of Chemo And A Year Of Herception Without Getting A Port?

I had problems with diarrhea and dehydration after each infusion. The benefit of the port is the speed at which they can give you iv fluids. With a port it's a liter an hour, without it the best they can do is one-third that. So without a port, Herceptin infusions might take 90 minutes.

I would get the port, I have one and would rather go through a little pain with the removal than have ruined my veins for future use. Chemo makes your veins collapse easier down the line.

I think you are probably on the same chemo meds that I am on...I have a port, I am through 4/6 of the first set of treatments. Dr said we could remove the port before I start the Herceptin only treatments, which won't be until beginning of April.

I'm nearly 5 years post surgery & over 4 years post chemo. Had no port & no problems with my veins since . Everyone is different. Chemo treatments only took about 1 1/2 hrs w/o a port.
