Herceptin And Hair

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Ellicott City, MD

I am finishing TCH treatment, 6 rounds and about to start a year of Herceptin every 3 weeks as maintenance. My question: might I have some hair regrowth while just on the Herceptin? Or will I likely be bald until this time next year? Man, I hate these scarves and "creative" head covers, don't you?

Thanks to every one of you for your thoughtful answers and generous sharing of your lives. it has meant a great deal to me to be part of this on line network.

Yes your hair will grow back while on herceptin. I finished chemo in November and am on herceptin until September and my hair is about an inch long and thick except for 2 small bald spots in the back.

I am currently on Herceptin for maintenance and my hair is growing back. I am going without my scarf now. I don't like the gray color it is, but at least it is hair. I plan on coloring it when it gets a little longer so I can trim it first

I honestly don't remember, sorry. I was just so excited to see some growth. My hair was reddish/auburn color before. Now it is very dark, almost black at first and has lightened up some. I wasn't too excited about the many grays, I call them sparkles, but I will take it and not complain!

I had my last TCH TX day before Thanksgiving and getting Herceptin every three weeks until August. My hair is about half an inch long and thick. I have been taking 5000 mcg of Biotin a day.

I finished my year of Herceptin on Friday. My hair is about 2 inches long. I've been to my hair stylist 3 times for color. I am a natural redhead who started coloring it at age 25 because it was turning white. Needless to say, I was not surprised it all that it grew back in all white. I had the first color treatment a little less than 6 months after last chemo treatment. According to my mother, it was "too orange". I'm thinking it may have been because it was virgin hair. My stylist is using the same color she has been using for years, but I'm happy it "looks so much better now." So, hold on. Not too much longer now.
