Most importantly do not drive under the influence of narcotics, and secondly do not drive with restricted movement (range of motion).
I was off pain meds within a couple days, still had my drain in; however, I was very capable of driving myself to my one week post op appt (100 miles round trip). You are the only one that can judge your pain level, mobility, amouny of energy, etc. that are key factors in determining if or when you're ready to drive.
Always error on the side of caution... It's not worth risking your safety or the safety of others. :) Safe travels!

My surgeon said no driving until all my drains were removed. I didn't entirely follow his orders since I drove myself to have the last two drains removed, which was about 3 weeks post op.

I was driving on my discharge from the hospital.

I drove as soon as I was no longer taking narcotic pain meds during the day - within a week.

I was fortunate, after my bilateral mastectomy I had no pain so meds were not an issue. I do not think anyone should drive if they have the drains in. When you feel the range of motion is good without pain then it would in my opinion be ok. Everyone is different. Better be safe than sorry.
