Is The Destruction Of Teeth And Or Jaw Due To Cancer Treatment Covered By Insurance? IT SHOULD BE!
Shouldn't DENTAL PROBLEMS OR JAW PROBLEMS caused by cancer treatment be considered medical and be covered by insurance? Teeth can run up a fortune. I already have 10K in two partials, and I need 3 times that now since treatment.. anybody know why it wouldn't be covered if the destruction of the teeth and or jaw was caused by cancer treatment?
There is no doubt that radiation damages your teeth. Read this. http://oralcancerfoundation.org/complications/o...

MAYBE IF.... the 10K women at Mycteam.com petitioned the government or dental association.. they'd HAVE TO COVER IT.. How do we get started? any suggestions?
Maybe This is something we need to push our congress man on and get it added to the ACA! I think anything caused by treatment should be covered. I have broken blood vessels in my face from tossing my cookies during chemo and wish I could get them zapped and covered but it's considered cosmetic.
@A MyBCTeam Member, I'm guessing most of us don't have a cancer policy persay, just major medical if we're lucky. At this point I imagine our best bet is to bug our providers and follow through with petitioning our government to make it mandatory for insurance to cover it. Much like reconstruction surgery.
I lost a crown due to the mri it loosens metal. I also just got my one year dexascan bone density test. My bones are now severely osteopenia. Anastrazole was killing me. I stopped taking it due to all the side effects about 1 week before my 1year mark. I'm only 48 I was in excellent shape before I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I was a dog walker, I walked about 8hrs a day. Now I have to get Fosamax which has horrible side effects. My insurance won't cover ProLiant which was my Dr's first choice. Now I have to go thru a bunch of other biophosphates until they'll give me prollia. I'm now told I need to watch for recurrence in bone cancer possibly. Side effects for biophosphates are jaw bone deterioration so if you are taking a cancer med or biophosphate I'd look into that as well. Frustrating even with insurance it's a fight. Good luck let me know what you find out. Xo
If you have a root canal tooth that has a temporary filling don't bite on it. With the live part of the tooth gone[nerve. pulp, etc.] the tooth becomes brittle and will fracture. That is why a post & core crown is necessary. I feel your pain as I am a retired dental hygienist with no dental insurance!
