Do I Just Choose A Size...??!?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

So, I am going to have a double mastectomy with no reconstruction. Regarding the prosthetics, I hope to use the gentle "Knitted Knockers". They sound amazing!

My question is, do I just get to choose a new bra size??? It would seem so, but I figured I would ask. I've been a D or E for a long time, and would really love to be a B or C and be able to wear buttoned blouses again...

The walking around was the same for me as Sanne, but the driving was definitely after the drains were out and then my surgeon scared me into not driving right off saying "if you get in an accident you will be in real trouble if the air bag discharges." So for me it was probably at least 3 weeks of healing.

@A MyBCTeam Member - I also had a bilateral mastectomy without reconstruction. I was able to walk around right away, within hours of surgery they had me walking the halls and using the bathroom. I was home with 24 hours and could easily climb stairs and otherwise get around without restrictions. I could drive as soon as I was no longer taking narcotic pain pills during the day, I think within a week (it will be 3 years in July)

Absolutely! I did! I am overweight so I wanted something that made me a little more proportionate. Actually, your insurance might actually pay for new foobs and bras yearly so you can change sizes and still have your old ones. I put my old ones I permanently in my bathing suit. I am very happy that I chose this route when I read about so many issues women on here have had with their reconstructions. Good luck!

Thank you!!! When you had your surgery, how long was it before you were able to walk around and drive comfortably? I am concerned about how long I will be unable to work -- not because of the finances, but because people depend on me...
