Who Has Had Hip Repair Or Replacement?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Mays Landing, NJ

I went six months last year thinking I had a muscle pull (pain in hip and leg) till they realized I had bone mets and a pathological fracture in my left hip. Doctor had said it wasn't something they operated on but would heal on it's own. Now over a year later I still limp and had pain in my back till the orthopedic gave me a lift for my shoe (she said one leg was shorter due to the hip problem) which pretty much eliminated my lower back pain (though I still limp some). My question is has anyone… read more

@A MyBCTeam Member - Hey hun thanks for responding! Thing have changed since I wrote that post. I went to the hip specialist ortho and he scheduled a full hip replacement. My two oncologists and my primary all put a halt to it. They said no way because I have bone mets that are from my neck down my spine to my hips/pelvis and my femars. Apparently with cancer in the area of the hip replacement could cause the bones to crumble and the new "hip" would have to be removed. My primary knew someone who went through this and is bedridden.
I have an appointment with the hip ortho surgeon again on 9/21 to see if there is anything else that can be done. I hate having to use this lift all the time and I'm a "barefoot' kinda girl and can't walk barefoot or even sandals. Would PT help at all? They won't let me go to a chiropractor or have surgery, so what is left? Thanks for the help! Hugs !!!

@A MyBCTeam Member and @A MyBCTeam Member - at this point my hip is "healed" snd I still get Xgeva shots every 28 days for the bones. The hip didn't heal correctly I guess because I have limited mobility in it and that leg is a bit shorter right now so I have a 5/16" lift in the heel of my shoe and tbat balances me out. I will try to remember to ask the hip doctor about the "cement" but I'm guessing I'm past that. Thanks ladies!@

@A MyBCTeam Member - I have the appointment with the ortho on September 21st. I'll post an update and let you and everyone else know what he says. My gut says he will tell me there is nothing else he can do and I'm stuck with the lift in my shoe forever. What kind of problems are you having with your hip?
