Mastectomy Vs. Lumpectomy. Idc Stage 1 Dcis
@A MyBCTeam Member: I was dx with stage 1 IDC and was offered lumpectomy - i went with mastectomy and thank goodness because I ended up having 3 tumours instead of the one they originally thought. (Ended up stage 2B) Even my surgeon said "good call on the mastectomy!". Listen to your instincts - you have them for a reason đź’•
@A MyBCTeam Member same!!! Even though I could have had a lumpectomy, my gut kept telling me mastectomy, I argued with myself a lot, then finally decided. There ended up being 2 IDC tumors instead of 1, along with DCIS and “lymphovascular invasion” (but had not gotten to my nodes thank god). When I found that out, I was so relieved that I had listened to myself.
I had stage 1 IDC. My surgeon also gave me the option. I really struggled with it. I went back and forth so many times I was driving myself crazy. Finally I made pro and con lists about each one and that helped me decide on a unilateral mastectomy. It was frustrating right after diagnosis how the doctors were not steering me one way or another. But it forced me to make a decision for my own reasons and I feel good about it. It’s nice to hear from the other ladies they too are happy with their decisions. Not to sound like a surgeon (haha) but whatever you decide will be the right decision for you. 💕
Terry, I agree with everyone else that at an early stage lumpectomy. Even with Mastectomy it can reoccur . When I was on my way towards surgery I had what was thought to be an early stage and my surgeon never mentioned mastectomy.
hi Terry My🥰 surgeon gave me the option of the lumpectomy and show me what it would entail and then asked me fell on the mastectomy she said she didn't feel it was necessary to have the whole breast removed since the tumor was real little and that it was close to the nipple she was afraid she may have to take the nipple butbut thank God she didn't have to also she said she did not consider me a high risk yeah she finds it the same character so she did the lumpectomy and the surrounding margins five of them margins around the tumor and past the margins with the Sentinel node biopsy she was a little concerned that she may not be able to save the nipple because the tumor was so close but she did save it she did say I would need to have radiation when I was healed .I would ask your doctor what they think would be best
I'm Confused. The Pathology Report Says I Have Invasive Lobular Carcinoma Stage 1. It Also Says It's In Situ. How Is It Both?
