Anyone Have Ongoing Pain From A Bug Bite Post Surgery/treatment On The Arm Where Lymph Nodes Were Removed?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Elk River, MN

About three weeks ago, I noticed a bug bit on the inside of my arm near my elbow. It's on the side where I had 4 lymph nodes removed. Since noticing the bite,I still have a new ache in that arm. Did some massage, and it just seems that just brought the ache further down to my wrist. I did go to a PT once for lymphodema and so I thought I did massage like she showed me. I guess I could also try the exercises she gave me?

I get bug bites and they take forever to go away, no matter where they are. I have a lymphoma that creates that issue. I don't know how long it's been since you did treatment, but if your immune system isn't all the way back up to snuff, that could be your issue.

...and, I'll add, dre a line around the perimeter of redness to see if that area grows, indicating an infection. Our arm will always be vunerable to bangs, bruising and openings by way of even a hangnail. Call your Onco (or GP if u trust them) as three weeks is a bit long.

from what I understand that arm is vulnerable from bug bites to infections to blood pressure cuffs and extra care is needed. Keep an eye on it and if continues to ache see see your primary

Well, today, I had my 3 month follow up from my last Herceptin treatment. I told my ONC about the bite and she said it was something I should see my primary about if I am concerned about it. I said, well could it be lymphodema related and she said no. Ugh!! Ok, let's just say that was part of an overall not-so- good at trying to make me feel good appointment. No worries though. Nothing is wrong will me. All is ok. I just wanted a more friendly appointment.

Thanks for all the great ideas and thioughts everyone!

The site of the bite isn't red or swollen. It's just a little pin prick, the bite is on my inner elbow area, but the ache is in my forearm area, now traveling to the wrist after massagin it. It might just all be coincidence. I see my ONC on Wed. Just adding it my list. Lol. It's not a long list-- I am feeling good! But after being able to see my care team at least every three weeks for so long, with this 3 month first follow up, I have had a few things pop into my mind. Not things warranting an immediate call to my care team , but just things I am wondering about.
