Are Broken Blood Vessels That Turn To Yellow Bruise Common 6-8 Months After Lumpectomy & Radiation?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Bethesda, MD

6 weeks ago, I reported to my oncologist that my previously cancerous breast was suddenly tender & sore, as if bruised. Sometimes if I roll over at night, the discomfort wakes me up. Also if my arm rubs against it the wrong way, I flinch. He examined me and said nothing feels abnormal and that it was probably delayed tissue dying from radiation. The discomfort hasn't gotten any worse (nor better), but last weekend I noticed what looked like spider veins on that breast and yesterday I noticed… read more

I'm 4 months post surgery (lumpectomy) and 1.5 months post Xrt. My Boob, hurts all the time, very tender with nerve pain still. Had itching during radiation . My colleagues say the pain is the nerves , sore tissue from radiation. Not sure about the bruising but I do have bruises on my arms and legs and I don't remember hitting anything. The chemo can make the skin overly sensitive to touch.

@A MyBCTeam Member - I never had surgery but I have bruises all over me (one friend said I look like I just walked out of a boxing ring) and my oncologist says it's from the chemo. I've always had thin blood but I think the chemo has made it worse. That's the only help I can offer <3

I hope neurontin works for you. They gave it to me post surgery to take for 3 weeks. I was surprised that it did nothing for me and stopped it. Most people get excellent results from it. Someone mentioned vitE and I think it was b12 . I'm going to the health food store this weekend for it. Our bodies really are quirky. As long as your platelets are good and normal INR I think it's just a weird thing. I'm a bruiser too. Breast surgery has a lot of nerve pain whether lumpectomy with node removal or full mastectomy. Who knew! Many times permanent but it gets better and the brain like phantom limb pain adjusts these sensory impulses and we get used to it and I've noticed I'm adjusting to it already. Pray neurontin works for you..

Sometimes the nerve pain- sharp shooting, spasm like, etc can be permanently get with scare pain. My colleague has pains still 6 yrs out and neuropathies still in her feet. I'm hoping within a year my neuropathies on my feet, hands and mouth go away. But, it beats the heck out of cancer!,
