Diep Flap
For those who had diep flap. Did you have radiation before or after?
I had Bilateral mastectomy with immediate placement of tissue expanders... my plastic surgeon then expanded to the size we thought was good.... then I had the radiation.... then the reconstruction ( DIEP) 6 months after that
@A MyBCTeam Member, I just had gel inplant placed almost two months ago. I too was not given a choice to use my own tissue due to the numerous abdominal surgeries I have had. For me Breast Reconstruction has been the most difficult, painful and uncomfortable procedure to go through right after bilateral mastectomy. I thought about nipple surgery, but after going through what I have gone through with these surgeries I am choosing not to. All I want is to feel some kind of normal. God Bless.
Hi
I had implants. I was not given a choice. To be honest I did not know enough to ask why no choice. I hope it all goes well. Two years ago yeasterday I had my nipple surgery. They could not save mine, I look ok but would have prefered my own tissue. I am not an implant person.
Hugs
I had a double mastectomy with immediate placement of tissue expanders..February 2015. They did the fills every 2 weeks after that.... My doctors said better to stretch out the skin before radiation.... As radiated skin doesn't stretch well.... And also they said they could "fix" any damage....
I had 25 radiation treatments from The middle of May to June 16..... They said had to wait 6 months after radiation to do the DIEP flap... I had it done in February of 2016.... Was a tough surgery but sooooo glad I did it.... Just had some revisions done 8/17

@BlieViolet I also think the exoander process was and still is a lot more painful then anything else I have been thru. It seems I have all sort of different nerve pains thst happen in different places. I can't wait for the exchange.
