I went in for a routine mammogram June 12th 2015.. I received a call June 15th that I needed to go back for more imaging just to be sure and that I would have an answer before I left that day. I went back June 19th for more imaging, they then moved me to the ultrasound room. My radiologist felt that an ultrasound was needed. After the ultrasound my radiologist felt that a biopsy was also needed and did I want to do it that day. I said yes and we proceeded with the biopsy. After talking with my radiologist I asked what she thought and she said I think you have a 4mm cancer and we don't find 4mm cancers (meaning that they do not find them this small very often). Was on pins and needles until June 23rd when I got the call that the biopsy was positive, I had cancer. I went for an MRI June 29th. July 1st I met with my surgeon and after talking about my options I chose lumpectomy and intraoperative radiation I was diagnosed with Stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma.. Met with radiation oncologist July 10th and it was decided that I was a candidate for intraoperative radiation (one big dose radiation given in the operating room. certain criteria have to be met to qualify for this type of radiation). I had a lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy and intraoperative radiation July 31st 2015 (nodes were clean). I then met with my oncologist September 30th and started Tamoxifen October 2nd. I am now 15 months cancer free. Prior to being diagnosed there were no symptoms, no family history and lump could not be felt. I feel BLESSED that mine was caught so early and my journey easier than most. What gets to me is that I skipped my mammogram in 2014. What if I had done my mammogram in 2014 and skipped it in 2015 , there is a chance I would not be here right now. Will NEVER skip another one.
Bless you. I too don't think I will miss having a mammogram again. It would be too nerve wracking.
I was 47 had my first mammogram ever.would never have gone but my husband's hr lady said if you put it under a well visit it is covered. A week n a half later I got a letter stating there was something abnormal n to talk to my dr. I happened to be going for my PaP n brought it up. My dr said the calcifications they found were probably nothing this happened to his wife as well. When doing the exam he felt nothing sent me for another mammogram. Called me a week later said he was making me an appt with the specialist a week later the surgeon free out my cluster of calcifications on paper n told me since they were so close together there was a 90% chance i didn't have cancer wait six months for another mammogram but if you're going to worry go get a biopsy. My surgeon felt nothing either. The next week I went n got the biopsy. The week after that I was told I had cancer the dr was glad I went for the biopsy. Before all this drama I was feeling great no signs no symptoms no nothing.
And yes I know duct ecstacia isn't cancer.
