Have Anyone Start Reconstruction And Quit
I'm doing reconstruction now I keep having breakdowns the skin on the side where I had radiation at and I am so tired of going back and surgery I'm thinking about stopping the Reconstruction and just go flat.
I had a dble masectomy with no reconstruction, what I've found is that prosethics are a bit heavy but doable. The nerves are now up front and can be aggravated with simple touch, washcloths, bras, etc. It's something I'll have to get used to one way or another.
Yes I started reconstruction and it was painful and horrible and I only had 4 fills with my expander and the one on the right deflated i had a radical on that side and it was horrible so i have prosthesis for 24 years now won't change that ever.
Yes I do have the tissue expanders but they are going to take them out on Wednesday that's what I decided to do
I have had my expanders in for over a year. I was at my PS today to discuss my EXC surgery in 10 days. He is worried about where to put the incision on the radiated breast to get the best results. He told me the basic problem is the blood vessels in the radiated breast don't act like normal blood vessels and often don't heal correctly. He said if that happened I would need another surgery to do a LAT flap. I am kind of concerned.
Literature tells us that often following mastectomy, immediate reconstruction is performed. Even if there was no plan for radiation therapy, it may be necessary due to a finding on the pathology report. Radiation therapy compromises the integrity of the skin and can result in complications and difficulty healing. The problem is more common with a tissue expander and implant. Flap reconstructions tend to have less problems.
