Two Years After Port Removal, Does Anyone Else Have A Bit Of An Indent Where Their Port Was?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a very faint scar where my port was. It doesn’t bother me, but recently I noticed when I touch that area , it feels “hollow”. I guess that makes sense, but I don’t remember feeling this before.

My NP explained that its basically a little pocket where they put the port. They do the same thing for a pace maker.

Someone on this site said that their plastic surgeon
actually “filled “ the area after removal.

I had my port for 2 years before it was removed. Yes, there is a slight indentation, although the scar healed nicely. When I was in for an ultrasound, the technician took a look there. She said it is a round space filled with fluid. I thought tissue would fill in the space, but apparently not.

I know others that have Minimal noticed but in my case I took my doctors advice n kept my in only because if there any emergency they can access support especially if you only have one good Vein and in Quincy Denteley I was in a serious car accident yesterday and they did access my port because I only have one vein , it saved My life again

Yes, I also developed an indentation where my port was sewn in. My first reconstructive surgery was a DIEP flap and my plastic surgeon was a true perfectionist. During one of my surgeries to finish the flap, he had had to remove fat from some area (I don’t remember from where) and he injected it into the indention. Problem solved! Now, all I see is white scar where it once was.

I still have my port in, I’m sure after chemo I’ll get it out, but hope the indentation goes away eventually
