Has Anyone Stopped Arimidex And Went On Tomixifan

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I will be seeing my oncologist in a month and have been off arimidex since the end of July due to severe knee pain. Reading posts about other meds I am scared to take anything that women also have had serious issues with. Is Tomixifan a choice even though I’m post menopausal?

Off meds Dr felt side effects were too severe to start new ones. 🙏🏼 Low probability of reoccurrence Since no lymph nodes involved and estrogen + I’m feeling this is the right decision

Something I forgot to add about tamoxifen. I have to get cardiac scans every 6 months as it can cause heart problems. (A rather important thing to forget to tell you, sorry.) Anyway, so far no heart problems.

Isn't it amazing how our bodies react so differently to medications. It's a good thing there are several options! My doctor tried all of the others before Tamoxifin. They all caused me severe bone pain. For me, Tamoxifin does not have any side effects.

I was on Tamoxifen for just a couple of months. Side effects were severe bone pain. Being I was pretty well into menopause, we switched to Arimidex. Pain is less severe now. Manageable with ibuprofen. My onco did say that Tamoxifen increases your risk of ovarian cancer. Good to talk about this with your doc and get all of the info you can so you can make an educated choice that is right for you. Everyone reacts differently. Good luck!

Yes, Tam is an option for post-meno women. Here is a comparison with aromatase inhibitors. The statistical edge that AI’s have over Tam might be important to you and your physician, although it may prove insignificant if you are finding it difficult to remain compliant with your AI due to the negative impact of associated side effects in your life- in that case, Tamoxafin wins.
