I Have Tightness (only Way I Know To Describe It) Where The Implants Are And Along The Incision Lines Of My Back.

In October of 2016, I was diagnosed a second time, same breast and same general area as the first in 2002. This time I opted to have bilateral mastectomies w/ reconstruction. The implant became exposed on the right side less than a month post op so he had to replace it. Then the left implant became exposed about a month after that. Instead of putting another implant in, he decided to put "temporary" implants in, 425cc and do a latissimus flap to add tissue that I didn't have due to not… read more

I had problems with my expanders from day one. I had them in for 13 months with excruciating pain everyday. I was hoping for less pain with the permanent implants. They only put in 325 ccs but I developed capsular contracture withinnthe first months. So one side stayed high and tight and painful and the other side dropped and was saggy. My first PS would do nothing to correct the assymetry. I found a new PS who was willing to do surgery but he said it would take at least 3-4 surgeries over 4 years to attempt to fix and he would not make any guarantees. While I was waiting for surgery I had to have 2 emergency surgeries because my incision kept reopening on my radiated side exposing the implant. Eventually I was in so much pain, I asked my PS to remove them. Now the pain is gone. I also found out the FDA was hiding incident reports about Mentor implants and all sorts of complications. I am so happy to be free of all those toxic chemicals that can bleed through the shell.

Yes, Donna I have experienced this tightness. I have asthma, so at first I thought my lungs were not doing well. In speaking to both my doctor and other breast cancer patients, this is common. The doctor explained that because all that tissue is removed, the implants lie right across your chest and cause that pressure feeling.

I have found that by going to physical therapy and walking , it helps to expand my lungs and has improved that initial suffocating feeling.

I hope you feel better. This is a tough journey to go on.

I hate to disagree but 750 ccs is a lot of extra weight on your chest and shoulders. You can do arm exercises until the cows come home and you will continue to have pain and discomfort. Mine were only 325 ccs and I had that same tightness and discomfort. My PS finally admitted that it was from the Alloderm pockets they needed to rebuild my breast. PS’s often sell reconstruction like it is a boob job. Lacies, it is not and we often do not get the same results. First of all we have no muscle to hold the implants up. So they have to expand and build pockets to hold the heavy implants. Implants are also foreign bodies and our body’s immune system sees them as invaders and develops a capsule around the implant to try to protect the rest of the body. This capsule is scar tissue and causes tons of problems. Soon after my implants were placed in 2017 I learned about Breast Implant Illness. If you google it you will find a FB page with 76,000 women who have similar issues with their implants

Donna, I don't know who your plastic surgeon is, but you may want to get a second opinion. I know the lat flaps cause neck, clavical and back tightness, but if for some reason, it's an issue of size, you may want to go make sure that's not a problem by seeing another doc. Just my opinion.

After my DIEP Flap the tightness and bloated feeling took 2 weeks to get any better. Every time I mentioned anytime about how it was feeling I was told to give it 3 months. Then I had a revision. Was told again wait 3 months. Well it has been two and a half months. Feels much better. Almost normal.
Good luck to you. Hopefully time will help!
