I Haven't Seen A Recent Post, So Thought I'd Try -- Anyone Know Anything About Any Alcoholic Beverage That Does NOT Increase Hot Flashes?

I'm taking Tamoxifen, and have horrible hot flashes at night ONLY when I have a drink, no matter how small it is. Has anyone else encountered this? Or is there an adult beverage that doesn't increase the likelihood of hot flashes? I just want to enjoy a cold beer or a yummy glass of wine now and then. My oncologist is fine with this, I'm just not fine with drowning in my bed at night. Any thoughts are appreciated!

While on Girls Weekend, I found out that a shandy from an Irish pub doesn't cause hot flashes for me and neither does tequila!! 😯 Beer alone...hot flashes, wine...hot flashes, rum drinks...night sweats, Seagrams...HOT and sweaty flashes!! I guess this gives you an idea of how we spent a lot of our time!!πŸ˜‚ But, a margarita or tequila sunrise, no problems!

Effexor works great for hot flashes! I was on it for about 18 months after my lumpectomy. I was also going through menopause at the same time. I took 75 mg of Effexor about 2-3 hours before bedtime. The night sweats stopped completely. Three years later, I am now off of the Effexor and I still get a few hot flashes during the day with the Tamoxifen, but its definitely a lot better. The Effexor at higher doses is used for depression/anxiety, but even at 75 mg, I felt like it took the edge off for me. I did not realize this until I tried stopping the Effexor. You have to taper down slowly and it may take a couple of attempts to get off of it, but the decrease in night sweats was soooo.... worth it!

MargoWhiteDavis - GREAT INFO! And it sounds like a FUN weekend!
Tequila was the next on my list. So far, only hard ciders don't bring on the hot flashes, or night sweats.

I hadn't been drinking at all, had horrible hot flashes every single night, as well as throughout the day. I was crazy too. My oncologist suggested I split it, take half in am, half in pm, and it worked wonders! Occasional warm flash, never the horrible night sweats that I had been dealing with. But if I ever had a single glass of wine or a beer or anything, that would lead to horrible night sweats again. I'm not a big drinker, but want something now and then. I've found that hard ciders don't cause the night sweats. I'm testing other drinks, just to have options : )

I have hot flashes every night whether I drink alcohol or not. I drank close to a gallon of water today and I just had a hot flash so bad my forehead beaded with sweat. And my house is freezing right now. The hot flash is over and I’m back under the blanket. I think no matter what we all get hot flashes.
